The investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanism is important for investment protection, but its disadvantages have gradually emerged. In recent years, multilateral reform options for the ISDS mechanism have been actively explored to better balance the protection of investors' rights and the interests of the host state's regulatory right. At the same time, investment facilitation, as an emerging and important area of international investment governance, emphasizes sustainable development and is committed to meeting the needs of a wider range of investment entities.
Hence, the China International Investment Arbitration Forum (“CIIAF”) will hold its 4th Annual Conference on 27 October 2023 in Shanghai with “Focusing on ISDS Reform and Investment Facilitation” as its theme. Renowned experts, scholars and lawyers in the field of international investment law and arbitration are invited to share their views and insights under the two sessions: “ISDS Reform and Practice” and “New Development of Investment Facilitation”. The CIIAF Annual Report (2021-2022) will be officially launched, and the winners of the 3rd Youth Excellent Paper Competition will be announced.
This Annual Conference is co-hosted by CIIAF, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), co-organized by Fudan University Law School and Leadvisor Law, coordinated by CIETAC Shanghai Sub-Commission, and supported by other member institutions of CIIAF.
The conference will be a half-day hybrid event, with simultaneous interpretation in Chinese and English. It will be livestreamed. Please refer to the attached full program for details. Representatives of domestic and international arbitration institutions, arbitrators, lawyers, counsels, scholars, entrepreneurs and other friends with interest are welcome to participate in the conference.

【Brief Introduction of CIIAF】
China International Investment Arbitration Forum (CIIAF), established in February 2019, is the first national research and cooperation platform for international investment legal theories and practice, as well as the first professional research platform for international investment arbitration in China.
CIIAF was jointly initiated by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and Xi’an Jiaotong University School of Law.
